Ruth M. Barkley, 85 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 9:45 p.m. on Monday, August 27, 2007 in the Adams Memorial Hospital located in Decatur, Indiana. Ruth was born on October 11, 1921 in Adams County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Ivan V. Barkley and the late Marie V. (Dager) Barkley. She married the late Chalmer H. Barkley on June 14, 1940 in Allen County, Indiana and he passed away on February 6, 2001. Ruth attended Crossroads Church and was a member of the St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Decatur. Ruth was past president of the Adams County Home Extension Club; past member of Decatur Order of the Eastern Star #127; past Matron and Grand Representative to Calgary, Canada; past member of Rebekah Circle, Live-Learn Homemakers Club and honorary member of Decatur Research Club; served on the Decatur Park & Recreation Board for 8 years and City Council of Decatur for 4 years. She was a member of the Jolly Housewives Club in Decatur. Ruth retired from Central Soya as a clerk in M.R. Dept. She was also the hostess of Listen Ladies at WADM. Surviving are her daughter, Onalee F. (Jan M.) Elzey of Gahanna, Ohio; daughter, Karen A. (Simeon) Hain of Zionsville, Indiana; son, Craig H. Barkley of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Norma Jean (Ronell) Wight, of Bellingham, Washington; sister, Patricia M. Morgan of Decatur, Indiana; brother, Loren D. (Janet) Barkley of Ossian, Indiana; exchange student, Sonia Lopes of Brasilia, Brazil; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. Preceding Ruth in death were two brothers, Warren Dale Barkley; Robert B. Barkley; and one sister, Judith K. Barkley. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 30, 2007 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana with Pastor Furhman Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. " 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2007 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. Preferred memorials are to Crossroads Church or St. Mark's United Methodist Church.
