Clara Louise Scherer, 89 years old of Hoagland, Indiana, passed away at 7:25 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2010 in the Parkview Hospital located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Clara was born on Friday, January 21, 1921 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana the daughter of the late Paul Wadsworth Wonderly and the late Louise (Bolman) Wonderly. She married the late Ray Scherer on August 2, 1947 in Trinity English Lutheran Church in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Clara was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock where she was involved with and was a charter member of the Ladies Evening Guild and also participated in the Seniors Program at the church. She was a longtime Sunday School teacher and active member at Flatrock until her health declined and limited her participation. Clara was also a member of the Hoagland Area Advancement Association (HAAA). She was a former member, and President, of the Madison Cheerful Workers Home Economics Club. Clara was formerly employed at Gardner's Drive-In in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. She then was employed by General Electric in Ft. Wayne working as a production worker (where she met her husband). Following her employment at GE, she was a full-time homemaker and also babysat as needed. Surviving are her daughter, Carol (Bob) Stannard of Monroeville, Indiana; nephew, John (Gail) Wonderly of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; nephew, Richard (Julie) Wonderly of Pioneer, Ohio; niece, Suzanne Wonderly of Lancaster, Ohio; niece, Mary Lou (Joe) Thomas of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; and the many members of the Scherer family. Preceding Clara in death were three brothers, Paul Wonderly, Richard Wonderly, and Ora "Orie" Wonderly; three sisters, Hazel Franke, Florence Koehler-Smiley, and Madeline Leininger; two nephews, Paul Wonderly Jr. and William "Bill" Franke. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2010 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock with Rev. Douglas Christian officiating. Interment will follow in the St John Lutheran Cemetery, Flatrock. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2010 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock, 12912 Franke Road, Monroeville, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
