Melvena E. "Beanie" Reed, 91 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 1:33 p.m. on Sunday, January 15, 2006 in the Woodcrest Nursing Center located in Decatur, Indiana following an extended illness. Melvena was born on July 16, 1914 in Adams County, Indiana the daughter of the late Jesse E. Williams and the late Ruth (Deam) Williams. She married the late Orval Reed on April 21, 1935 and he passed away on December 13, 1981. Melvena was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Decatur, Indiana; Civic Section of the Decatur Women's Club; Historical Club, serving as president in 1991. Melvena retired in 1976 from Central Soya with 7 1/2 years of service; she also was secretary to the principal at Poplar Grove School in Wells County for 7 years. Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Gregg (Helen) Zimmerman of Texas. Melvena was preceded in death by two sisters, Marcella (Sally) Scherry, Hilda Jackson; and two brothers, Darrell & Donald Williams. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2006 in the Woodcrest Chapel at the Woodcrest Nursing Center, 1300 Mercer Ave. Decatur, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends will be received from 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2006 in the Woodcrest Chapel. Preferred memorials are to Zion Lutheran Church, Decatur or Woodcrest.
