Lela S. "Brokaw" Kershner

Lela S. "Brokaw" Kershner, 92 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2007 in the Woodcrest Nursing Center located in Decatur. She was born on Friday, September 24, 1915 in Adams County, Indiana the daughter of the late William Reppert and the late Emma (Yost) Reppert. Lela married Luther Brokaw on September 4, 1936 and he passed away on February 18, 1977. She married her second husband, Harry Kershner, on March 28, 1985 and he passed away on December 8, 1988. Lela was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ where she was active in the Friendship Circle and the Women's Guild of the church. She had formerly been employed by the Council on Aging for ten years and the Adams County Hospital, where she was a nurses aid for 15 years on a part time basis. Surviving are her son, Norman Brokaw of Decatur, Indiana, step-son, William Kerschner of Decatur, Indiana, step-daughter, Carole Singleton of Oxford, Kansas, step-daughter, Diana Anderson of Fleet, Michigan, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, seven step great-grandchildren. Preceding Lela in death were five sisters and one brother. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2007 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Rossman officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 27 in Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home. Preferred memorials are to Zion United Church of Christ or the Adams County Heart Club.
