Daniel E. Cowans, 68 years old of Springfield, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at his residence following a three-year battle with cancer. He was born on Sunday, September 4, 1938 in Decatur, Indiana the son of the late Lester F. Cowans and the late Marie J. (Scherry) Cowans. He married Sharon K. Kreischer on September 5, 1958. Daniel served in the United States Marine Reserves. He was a member of serveral lodges in Springfield, Ohio including the Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge, Union Lodge & the Elks Lodge where he was a former trustee. He retired as a management supervisor from Navistar in 1997 with thirty years of service. Surviving are his wife, Sharon K. Cowans of Springfield, Ohio, daughter, Mrs. David (Kelly R.) Rumschlag of Decatur, Indiana, daughter, Mrs. Norman (Kimberly Kay) Reilly of Corydon, Indiana, son, Christopher K. Cowans of Soldotna, Alaska, brother, Jerry L. (Linda) Cowans of Decatur, Indiana, brother, Thomas L. (Maryanne) Cowans of Birchwood, Wisconsin, brother, Joe D. (Shirley) Cowans of Rockport, Indiana, brother, John A. (Suzy) Cowans of Decatur, Indiana, sister, Mrs. Jim (Marlene M.) Boyle of Decatur, Indiana, and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2006 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Rev. Anthony Stidam officiating. There will be burial at a later date in the Decatur Cemeterey. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 1, 2006 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home. Preferred memorials are to the Community Mercy Hospice of Springfield, Ohio.
