Carl E. Hildebrand, 89 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 in Adams Memorial Hospital. He was born on Saturday, December 25, 1920 in Adams County, Indiana the son of the late Otto F. Hildebrand and the late Flora A. (Bracht) Hildebrand. He married Irma C. McBarnes on June 15, 1946 and she passed away on June 3, 1985. He married Jean Oliver Strahm August 2, 1986. Carl was lifelong member of the Salem United Church of Christ, Magley and a longtime Kirkland Township farmer. He was a graduate of Kirkland High School Class of 1939 and served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater. Surviving are his wife, Jean Hildebrand of Decatur, son, Steve (Sandy) Hildebrand of Decatur, daughter, Carolyn (Terry) Brendel of Valparaiso, son, Tom Hildebrand of Bluffton, step-daughter, Donna (Malcom) Miesse of Decatur, step-son, Terry (Kathy) Strahm of Indianapolis, step-daughter, Debra (Dan) Harman of New Haven, three grandsons, three great-grandchildren, seven step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren. Preceding Carl in death were one brother, Walter Hildebrand, three sisters; Irene Peck, Helen Beery and Marie Grether and one step-granddaughter, Julie Ann Harman. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2010 in the Salem United Church of Christ, Magley with Rev. Linn Bartling officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem United Church of Christ Cemetery with Military Graveside Services conducted by American Legion Post #43 Colorguard, Decatur. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 9 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Preferred memorials are to Salem Untied Church of Christ.
