Frederick B. Rumschlag, 79 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at his residence. Fred was born on Friday, October 10, 1930 in Decatur, Indiana the son of the late Bernard Rumschlag and the late Hilda (Coyne) Rumschlag. He married Barbara E. Smith on September 11, 1954 in Washburn, Wisconsin and she survives. Fred was member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur; active in Special Olympics in Plano Texas; honored as Family of the Year in Dallas, Texas Area Special Olympics. Fred served his country during the Korean War, serving in the United States Army. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was a Military Policeman. Fred retired in 1997 from the Plano School District in Plano, Texas as a custodian; had worked at International Harvester for 17 years; Walt's Motors in Decatur and the Decatur Daily Democrat. Surviving are his wife, Barbara E. Rumschlag of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Kathy (Mitch) Monroe of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Lynne Bell of Decatur, Indiana; son, James Rumschlag of Jacksonville, Florida; daughter, Kristi (David) Frauhiger of Pueblo, Colorado; son, Rick Rumschlag of Decatur, Indiana; brother, William (Gloria) Rumschlag of Decatur, Indiana; 8 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. Preceding Frederick in death were 2 brothers, Donald and Gerald Rumschlag; 1 sister, Marilyn Rumschlag; and 1 daugther-in-law, Gina Rumschlag. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 9, 2010 in the Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Phil Phifer officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Graveside Military honors will be conducted by the Adams Post 43 American Legion Color Guard. Friends will be received from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 8, 2010 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
