Shermie Dee Sprague, 91 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away at 1:50 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2008 in the Village of Heritage located in Monroeville, Indiana. Shermie was born on Thursday, November 9, 1916 in Little Lot, Tennessee the daughter of the late L.O. Maddox and the late Willie Dee (Cotton) Maddox. She married the late Ralph Kenneth Sprague on April 20, 1935 in Lagrange, Indiana, and he passed away on April 15, 1966. Shermie was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Monroeville, Indiana where she had been a Sunday School teacher; involved with the Bethel Series, Church Choir, and the Ladies Aid Society. Shermie enjoyed gardening, Golf, and reading and was also a homemaker. Surviving are her daughter, Shirley S. (Charles) Nord of Marinette, Wisconsin, son, David R. (Joy) Sprague of New Haven, Indiana, daughter, Virginia Dee (Rex) Smith of Monroeville, Indiana, sister, Vivian Ball of Woodburn, Indiana, ten grandchildren: Larry Nord, Jonathan Nored, Cindy Riebersal, Crystal Helton, Camellia Tobin, David Ryan Sprague, John Sprague, Sara Sprague, Shannon Smith, Bradley Smith; and ten great-grandchildren: Cheyenne Nord, Chole Tobin, Danny tobin, Ryan Sprague, Grant Sprague, Genjamin Sprague, Braden Smith, Makenna Smith, Bethany Riebersal, Melissa Riebersal. Preceding Shermie in death were one daughter, Carol A. Clark in 1993; four sisters, Hazel Pearl Maddox; Sue Zimmerman; E. Louise Sipe; and Delores Hill. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2008 in the St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Monroeville, Indiana with the Rev. William Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 2008 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Preferred memorials are to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Village of Heritage, or Parkview Hospice.
