Don H. Burke, 85, of Decatur, passed away at 2:30 a.m. on Friday, April 2, 2010 at his residence. He was born July 17, 1924 in Adams County, Indiana to William and Alta L. (Bryan) Burke, who are both deceased. He was united in marriage to Ardena R. Kirchner on November 2, 1947 and she preceded him in death on April 6, 2004. Don was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Decatur; American Legion Post #43, Decatur; and the V.F.W. in Decatur. Don served his country during World War II in the United States Army. Don was a retired self-employed Insurance Agent in Decatur. Don is survived by his children, Kay and Mark Jackson of Ossian, Indiana; Ann Burke and Dale Enochs of Bloomington, Indiana; Dave and Deb Burke of Decatur, Indiana; Sister-in-law Lola Burke of Cadillac, Michigan; Eight Grandchildren: Andrea (Michael) Driscoll, Justin Jackson, Valerie Jackson, Nathan Jackson, Ian Enochs, Amanda (Craig) Lohr, Christa Burke, Shawn Burke; six Great-Grandchildren: Jonah Driscoll of Chicago, Illinois and Justin, Tiffany, Nathan, Brandon, and Madison of Nashville, Tennessee. Don was preceded in death by two brothers: Marion Burke and Ralph Burke; sister-in-law Kathleen Burke; and a grandson, Mathew Jackson. Dons family would also like to thank two special caregivers Mendi Brite and Rosemary Morgan. Funeral services for Don will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 in the Zion Lutheran Church, Decatur with Pastor Phil Phifer and Pastor Robert Becker officiating. Burial will follow the services in Decatur Cemetery with military graveside services being provided by the Adams Post 43 American Legion Color Guard. Friends and family of Don will be received from 4:00 " 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2010 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, IN and one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. Preferred memorials in honor of Don may be given to the Zion Lutheran Church, Decatur or Family Hospice & Palliative Care.
