Norbert D. Byer, 79 years old of Willshire, Ohio, passed away at 1:15 a.m. on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 in the Van Wert Hospice located in Van Wert, Ohio, shortly after being admitted. Norb was born on Monday, February 23, 1931 in Adams County, Indiana the son of the late Elvin K. Byer and the late Delight Rose (Aspy) Byer. He married Beverly A. Lambert on July 1, 1961 in Decatur, Indiana and she survives. Norb was a member of the American Legion Post in Willshire, Ohio. Norb retired from Phelps Dodge after 42 years of service. Norb served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Surviving are his wife, Beverly A. Byer of Willshire, Ohio; daughter, Julie Dunning of Willshire, Ohio; daughter, Jody (Rick) Fairchild of Las Vegas, Nevada; son, Jeff Byer of Willshire, Ohio; brother, Leon (Rita) Byer of Willshire, Ohio; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Preceding Norb in death were two brothers, Richard and Marvin Byer; and one sister, Jackie Boroff. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Shook officiating. Interment will follow in the Willshire Cemetery, Willshire, Ohio. Military Graveside Services will be conducted by American Legion Post #207. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2010 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana. Preferred memorials are to Hospice of Van Wert.
