Alfred W. Schott, 83 years old of Rockford, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 in the Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center located in Van Wert, Ohio. He was ill only a short time following an accident at home on January 7, 2011. He was born on Sunday, August 28, 1927 in Mercer County, Ohio the son of the late Frederick Schott and the late Williamina (Emerick) Schott. He married Barbara L. Mathews on March 19, 1946 in Chattanooga, Ohio. Alfred was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Europe during WWII. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Schumm, Ohio. Alfred was a carpenter and also worked for International Harvester in Fort Wayne; where he was a trouble shooter for new truck production. Surviving are his wife, Barbara L. Schott of Rockford, Ohio, son, Alan (Dianne) Schott of Willshire, Ohio, son, Barry Schott of Atlanta, Georgia, daughter, Sharon (Steve) Murphy of Blytheville, Arkansas, son, Kelly Schott of Ohio City, Ohio, daughter, Traci Schott of Fort Wayne, Indiana, sister, Irene Herron of St. Henry, Ohio, brother, Paul (June) Schott of New Bremen, Ohio, brother, Dale (Mary) Schott of Fort Wayne, Indiana, three grandchildren; Cory (Sarah) Davies, Collin Davies & Alison (Joe) Bender and one great-grandson, Dokken Davies. He was preceded in death by three sisters; Anna Lee Schlechte, Ruth Edwards & Leah Smith and four brothers; Clarence, Glenn, Mike & Ray Schott. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011 in the Zion Lutheran Church, Schumm with Pastor Jeff Patterson officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Schumm, Ohio with Military Graveside Honors to be conducted by the American Legion Homer Pierson Post #207 of Willshire, Ohio. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, January 14 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Preferred memorials are to Zion Lutheran Church, Concordia Theological Seminary or the donor's choice.
