Virgil L. Hawkins, 79 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 2:03 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2010 in the Chalet Village located in Berne, Indiana following an extended illness. Virgil was born on Saturday, May 24, 1930 in Adams County, Indiana the son of the late Wilbur E. Hawkins and the late Mable (Burkhart) Hawkins. He married Patsy R. Hawkins on April 14, 1951 in U.B. Church, Decatur, Indiana and she survives. Virgil had been a volunteer fireman for the city of Decatur; and a volunteer with Adams County Sheriff Department. Virgil was employed at Central Soya in 1950 and retired in 1993. Surviving are his wife, Patsy R. Hawkins of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Kelly J. Hawkins of Decatur, Indiana; son, Larry E. Hawkins of Decatur, Indiana; and sister, Pauline (Marvin) Helsel of Seattle, Washington. Preceding Virgil in death were 1 son, Terry Dean Hawkins; 4 brothers, Robert (Bobby) Hawkins; Charles F. Hawkins; Forrest E. Hawkins; Wilbur "Emmit" Hawkins; and 1 sister, Mary Jane Hawkins. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 21, 2010 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Pastor Sandy Hildebrand officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2010 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana. Preferred memorials are to A.C.C.F. - Cancer Fund; Adams County Heart Club; Huntington's Disease Society Indiana Chapter; or Hospice of N E Indiana.
