Norman E. "Pappy" Scheumann, 86 years old of Preble, Indiana passed away at 2:37 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at his residence. Norman was born on Monday, February 15, 1926 in Wells County, Indiana the son of the late Henry Scheumann and the late Edna (Buuck) Scheumann. He married Wilda Bradtmueller on May 19, 1951 and she survives. Norman served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Norman was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble. He was also a founding member of the Preble Volunteer Fire Department, having volunteered for over 50 years during which time he was the fire chief for many years. He was also a Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association 50 year member. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #43. Norman retired in 1988 from Fruehauf Trailer Company with 38 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked part-time at Preble Feed & Grain and also as a custodian for North Adams Community Schools at Bellmont High School. Surviving are his wife, Wilda Scheumann of Preble, IN; son, Kerry L. (Linda) Scheumann of Preble, IN; son, Warren D. (fiance Lori Hanes) Scheumann of Decatur, IN; son, Marlin W. (Lisa) Scheumann of Decatur, IN; son, Nolan G. (Corene) Scheumann of Decatur, IN; son, Darren L. (Trisha) Scheumann of Decatur, IN; sister, Lorna Lepper of New Haven, IN; sister, Ardina (Ivan) Lepper of Hoagland, IN; brother, Wilmer (Karen) Scheumann of Columbia City, IN; brother, Clarence (Judy) Scheumann of Monroeville, IN; brother, Donald E. (Teresa) Scheumann of Decatur, IN; seven grandchildren: Emily (Adam) Minnich; Natalie (Stuart) Aspy; Kaylee Scheumann; Brooke Scheumann; Marissa Scheumann; Daniel Scheumann; and Felicia Scheumann; three step-grandchildren: Nathan Weishuhn; Levi Hanes; and Carlli Hanes; and one great-grandson: Clayton Minnich. Preceding Norman in death wer one brother and sister-in-law, Marvin (Marcile) Scheumann; and one brother-in-law, Edgar Lepper. A 10:15 a.m. Prayer Service will be held at the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, IN on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 followed by an 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Brege officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Lawn Cemetery, Ossian, IN. Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2012 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, IN and one hour prior to the prayer service at the funeral home on Wednesday. Preferred memorials are to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble; Worship For Shut Ins; or Family Life Care (Hospice).
