Valera G. Wass, 95 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2010 in the Village of Heritage located in Monroeville. Valera was born on Wednesday, June 24, 1914 in Convoy, Ohio the daughter of the late James Hart and the late Ada E. (Carpenter) Hart. She married the late Emerson D. "Sid" Wass on March 8, 1935 in Fort Wayne, Indiana and he passed away on January 21, 2001. Valera was a member of the East Liberty United Methodist Church of rural Monroeville, Indiana. She was a loving mother and homemaker for her family. Surviving are her daughter, A. Louise Hammond of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Shirley A. (Keith) Frey of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Jean D. (Larry) Ternet of Monroeville, Indiana; daughter, Jane M. (Leo) Busick of Woodburn, Indiana; daughter, Loretta R. (James) Waymire of New Palestine, Indiana; son, E. Dale (Shirley) Wass of Decatur, Indiana; son, Dean W. (Cindy) Wass of Monroeville, Indiana; son, Steven D. Wass of Monroeville, Indiana; son, Duane L. (Kathy) Wass of Coatesville, Indiana; half-brother, Roger Hart of Centerville, Michigan; twenty-nine grandchildren, sixty-three great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Valera in death were 3 children: Sheryl Wass, D. Brian Wass, infant Roy Wass; 1 great-granddaughter: Brooke Peters; 3 brothers: Donald Hart, Floyd Hart, Chalmer Hart; and 1 sister: Glennis Engle. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2010 in the East Liberty United Methodist Church with Rev. Ralph Klinker officiating. Interment will follow in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2010 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Preferred memorials are to East Liberty United Methodist Church of donor's choice.
