Gerald "Gary" P. Martin, 64 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away at 8:45 p.m on Friday, March 23, 2007 at his residence, after a two year battle with cancer. Gary was born on July 13, 1942 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, the son of the late Norbert P. Martin and the late Arletta J. (Powell) Martin. He married Phyllis A. (Warner) Lindsey on August 30, 1999 in York, Maine at the Cape Neddic Lighthouse, and she survives. Gary and Phyllis traveled extensively around the Great Lakes visiting all the lighthouses. Gary was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1964. Gary was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church-Besancon; Central Indiana Karting Association; Maumee Valley Steam & Antique Engine Association; Chevrolet Vintage Car Club; USA Ballroom Dance Association; American Legion Post 420 in Monroeville, Indiana. Gary was an engineering technician at Raytheon Systems for 29 years and ITT Industries in the same capacity for 5 years; an author who wrote and published 6 books and owned his own publishing company called Martin Motorsports Publishing Company. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis A. Lindsey- Martin of Monroeville, Indiana, son, Brian G. (Julie) Martin of Monroeville, Indiana, step-son, Shawn Lindsey Sr. of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, step-son, Richard Lindsey Jr. of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, step-son, Robert Lindsey Sr. of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, step-daughter, Dawn M. Stump of New Haven, Indiana, sister, Dolores Martz of St. Petersburg, Florida, sister, Sandra G. (David) Speith of New Haven, Indiana, eleven step-grandchildren, and four nieces and nephews. Preceding Gerald in death was one nephew. A 9:20 a.m. Prayer Service will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2007 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Rose Catholic Church with Fr. Stephen Colchin officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Rose Catholic Cemetery, Monroeville, Indiana. Military Graveside Services will be conducted by American Legion Post 420 and VFW Post 10265 Color Guard. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2007 and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2007 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana. There will be a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2007 in the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to PANCAN Research at I U Medical Center; Calvary United Methodist Church; or Masses to the church.
