Charles S. Schaffer, 84 years old, passed away Saturday April 14, 2012 at 1:07 p.m. in the Markel Health & Rehabilitation Center, in Markle, Indiana. He was born on July 14, 1927 in Adams County to Carl & Myrtle (Baylor) Schaffer who are both deceased. He married Helen Ruth Plumb on March 25, 1950 in Decatur, Indiana and she passed away on July 2, 2011. Charles was a member of the First Baptist Church in Decatur. Charles served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Charles retired from Central Soya in Decatur with 45 years of service. He had also worked at General Electric in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Surviving are his daughter, Linda (Myron) Hamrick of Decatur, IN; sister, Anna Belle (Carl) Lichtenberger of Decatur, IN; grandson, Michael (Melissa) Hamrick of Decatur, IN; granddaughter, Julie (Rev. Dave) Yinger of Terre Haute, OH; grandson, Myron C. Hamrick of Decatur, IN; four great-grandchildren: Justin, Ashley, Cameron, and Lathyn Hamrick. Preceding Charles in death were one brother, Jesse Leroy Schaffer and one sister, Mary Jane Reinhardt. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, IN with Rev. Whitney West officiating. American Legion Post #43 Color Guard will conduct military services. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 2:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, IN. Preferred memorials are to the First Baptist Church in Decatur.
