Jerry L. "Hap" Marquardt, 61 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2007 in the Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home located in Fort Wayne following an extended illness of eleven months. He was born on Wednesday, October 24, 1945 in Harlingen, Texas the son of the late John A. Marquardt and the late Mary A. (Burgo) Marquardt. He married Jane L. Shifferly on March 9, 1968 in Monroeville, Indiana. Hap enlisted in the Air National Guard in 1965 and retired in 1994. He attended Southwinds Church of Christ in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was a member of the American Legion Post #420 in Monroeville, the U. S. Air Force Sergeant's Association, and the Eagles Lodge #3164 in New Haven. Hap was a member of the Monroeville Volunteer Fire Department where he had served as chief and as training officer and he was involved in the Indiana Volunteer Fireman's Association where he served as chairman of the 1980 convention. He was the past president of the Allen County Fire Chief's Association and a member & former president of the Monroeville Park Board. He retired from Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1996 after 31 years and eight months of service. He was also co-owner of J. Marquardt & Sons Contractors in Monroeville. Surviving are his wife, Jane L. Marquardt of Monroeville, Indiana, son, John W. (Amy) Marquardt of Fort Wayne, Indiana, son, Jeffrey L. Marquardt of Fort Wayne, Indiana, twin-brother, Garry W. Marquardt of Fort Wayne, Indiana, brother-in-law, Chet Towell of Sebring, Florida, and three granddaughters; Rylee, Emily & Paige. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2007 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel with Rev. John DiMarzio Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 17 and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana. Preferred memorials are to Monroeville Fire Department or the Monroeville Community Park. The Aboite Township Fire Department will serve as pallbearers and honor guard. The Monroeville Volunteer Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.
