Harold C. Hoffman, 85 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 9:20 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2006 at his residence. He was born on November 21, 1920 in Adams County, Indiana, the son of the late Oswald Hoffman and the late Emma (Ehlerding). His first wife was Myrtle M. Schrock, whom he married on December 7, 1940 and she passed away on January 5, 1965. He then married Mary A. (Lee) Sheets on September 1, 1967 and she survives. Harold was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble where he served as a trustee, elder and youth counselor. He was a 61 year member of the American Legion Post #43 where he served in the Color Guard and was a Past Commander; and inactive member of the Preble Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Chief for 8 years. Harold retired in 1982 from International Harvester with 40 years of service. Harold's marriage to the late Myrtle (Shrock) Hoffman produced three children: Ronald L. (Shirley) Hoffman, deceased; Michael D. (Diana) Hoffman; and RuthAnn (Richard) Penrod. With his marriage to Mary A. (Lee) Sheets, he added her four children to his family: Jesse E. Sheets (deceased); Vicki L. (Allan) Milholland; Thomas W. Sheets; and Julie K. OBeirne. Harold was blessed with fifteen grandchildren: Michele (Jeffrey) Warner; Stephanie (Michael) Fawcett; Richard Leon Penrod, II, (deceased); Sarah (Dan) Friedt; Nicholas (Rebecca) Hoffman; Jonathan (Leah) Sheets; Kristopher (Alexis) Sheets; Jennifer Sheets; Tiffany Sheets; Matthew Sheets; Erin (Vinnie) Espinosa; Vincent Milholland; Ryan OBeirne, Cole OBeirne and Logan OBeirne, and eight great-grandchildren: Jordan Warner; Jared Fawcett; Britny Fawcett; Makayla Friedt; Isabelle Friedt; Isaac Friedt; Caitlin Sheets and Aimee Sheets. He was also blessed with two special friends and caregivers, Robin Callow and Mary Sousie. Harold was preceded in death by one son, Ronald L. Hoffman; one son Jesse E. Sheets; one grandson, Richard Penrod II; and two brothers, Walter and Werner Hoffman. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006 in the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble with Rev. Daniel J. Brege officiating. Interment will follow in the St Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery. Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by Adams Post #43 Color Guard. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2006 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
