Larry J. Beerman, 73 years old of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2010 in the St. Joseph Medical Center located in Fort Wayne following a two week illness. He was born on Monday, March 8, 1937 in Fort Wayne, Indiana the son of the late William Beerman and the late Jane L. (Welch) Beerman. He married Doris J. Grotrian on June 12, 1959 in St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock. Larry was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock and the American Legion Post #420, Monroeville. He retired as a plant engineer in 1999 from Phelps Dodge Company in Fort Wayne with thirty-six years of service. He was also the site engineer for a new Phelps Dodge plant in El Paso, Texas. Larry served his country in the United States Air Guard during the Berlin Crisis. He graduated from Indiana Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and was a former member of their basketball team. Surviving are his wife, Doris J. Beerman of Fort Wayne, son, Brad S. (Marcia) Beerman of Waterloo, Indiana daughter, Jody (Ryan) Kelley of Rockford, Michigan, daughter, Vicki (Donald) Roop of Fort Wayne, brother, Thomas Beerman of Bloomington, Indiana and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2010 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock with Rev. Douglas Christian officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery Flatrock. Friends will be received from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 28 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral, Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock .
