Arthur Scharpenberg

Arthur Scharpenberg, 82 years old of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2009 in the Parkview Hospital. He was born on Monday, September 6, 1926 in Allen County, Indiana the son of Louis and Emma (Poehler) Scharpenberg. He married Margaret Saalfrank on October 3, 1953 in Martini Lutheran Church and she passed away on July 10, 2005. Arthur attended Hoagland High School and was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1994 with twenty years of service as a mechanic with East Allen County Schools. He had over forty years experience working as a mechanic. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock in Monroeville. Surviving are his son, Lynn Scharpenberg of Marion, son, Eugene ( Patty) Scharpenberg of Hoagland, daughter, Mrs. Dale (Michelle) Loshe of New Haven, daughter, Mrs. Joe (Susan) Kelly of Sturgis, Michigan, sister, Louena Scharpenberg of Fort Wayne, half-sister, Marcella Jackson of Fort Wayne, companion, Dolores Stratton of New Haven and eight grandchildren; Chad & Lisa Scharpenberg of Hoagland; Brandon, Casey, Nicole & Benjamin Loshe of New Haven and Paul & Alex Kelly of Sturgis, Michigan. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Elaine Scharpenberg, who died in infancy in 1958 and one brother, Paul Scharpenberg.. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2009 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock with Rev. Douglas Christian officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery Flatrock. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 2 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock or Worship for Shut-Ins.
