Velma Louise Grotrian, 99 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away at 7:50 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2006 in the Village of Heritage located in Monroeville, Indiana. Velma was born on October 22, 1906 in Allen County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Charles Hockemeyer and the late Mathilda Hormann. She married the late Elmer Grotrian on June 12, 1932 and he passed away on June 1, 1992. Velma was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock; and a member of the Ladies Aid of the church. She was also a homemaker. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Larry J. ( Doris J.) Beerman of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, son-in-law, Merl Geiger of Indianapolis, Indiana, six granchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. Velma was preceded in death by one daughter, Helen J. Geiger in 1994; one brother, Arnold Hockemeyer; and two sisters, Esther Heine and Mildred Melcher. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2006 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock with the Rev. Douglas Christian officiating. Interment will follow in the Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2006 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Preferred memorials are to St. John Flatrock Branching Out in Christ; or donor's choice.
