H. Edward Franke, 93 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 in the Village of Heritage located in Monroeville, Indiana. Ed was born on Wednesday, July 4, 1917 in Monroeville, Indiana the son of the late Frederick Franke and the late Clara E. (Flaugh) Franke. He married the late Dorothy E. Dressler on May 22, 1943 in St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, Indiana and she passed away on September 8, 2009. Ed was a lifelong member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock, where he had been a former Church Council President; Deacon; School Board member at the St. John Flatrock School; and a former member of the Men's Club at the church. Ed was a former school board member of the Madison-Marion Consolidated Schools, where he was also a school bus driver. He was also a former member of the Lutheran Homes Planning Committee; Hoagland Area Advancement Association; and the Heritage Lions Club in Hoagland, Indiana. Ed enjoyed playing horseshoes. Ed had been employed at International Harvester Company from 1955-1980 and retired from the Receiving Department. He was also a retired self-employed farmer. Surviving are his son, Steven E. (Martha J.) Franke of Peoria, Arizona; daughter, Janet M. (Wayne) Zelt of Hoagland, Indiana; daughter, Norma J. (Don) Boenker of Decatur, Indiana; son, Dan R. (Mary Jo) Franke of Fremont, Indiana; daughter, Alice M. (Jeff) King of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; son, Phil D. (Sharon) Franke of Monroeville, Indiana; son, Les E. Franke of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; son, Doug L. (Belinda) Franke of Zionisville, Indiana; brother, Melvin M. Franke of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; sister-in-law, Maryann Dressler of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren. Preceding Ed in death were one sister, Mildred Tyler; and one brother, Delmer J. Franke. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2011 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock with Rev. Douglas Christian officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery Flatrock. Friends will be received from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock; or Worship For Shut-Ins.
