Phyllis J. Houk, 83 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 4:03 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 in the Adams Memorial Hospital located in Decatur, Indiana. Phyllis was born on Thursday, June 18, 1925 in Decatur, Indiana, the daughter of the late Albert F. Beineke and the late June Blosson (Burkhart) Beineke. She married Howard Haugk in 1946 and he passed away in 1951; she married Harry F. (Bud) Houk in 1953 and he passed away in 1973. Phyllis was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. She was a former member of the Research Club; a former Decatur Public Library board of directors. Phyllis retired from teaching after 36 years; having taught in the North Adams Community School System for 24 years. Surviving are her son, Joel D. (Debbie) Houk of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Julia S. (Jim) Noblitt of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Alice (John) Zintzmaster of Scottsdale, Arizona; six grandchildren and one great-grandson. Preceding Phyllis in death was one brother, Dr. Jack Beineke. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2009 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Pastor Jay Carter officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2009 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur Indiana. Preferred memorials are to Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana.
