Katherine Elizabeth Ort, 93 years old of Monroeville, Indiana since 1937, passed away at 11:20 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2011 in the Village of Heritage located in Monroeville. Katherine was born on Friday, December 14, 1917 in Payne, Ohio the daughter of the late Vern L. Spencer and the late Esther G. (Snyder) Spencer. She married the late Norbert S. Ort on September 11, 1937 in St. Patrick's Catholic Church and he passed away on May 1, 1994. Katherine was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church, Besancon in New Haven, Indiana. She was a member of the Do Better Home Economics Club; enjoyed sewing, crocheting and cooking. Katherine was a homemaker. Katherine retired in 1973 from Western Auto as a bookkeeper with 14 years of service. She had also been employed by General Electric. Surviving are her son, Wilbur N. (Mary) Ort of New Haven, Indiana; daughter, Ladonna K. (Ronald) Bowers of Woodburn, Indiana; son, Allen R. (Rosalind) Ort of Monroeville, Indiana; daughter, Patricia A. (Donald) Sarrazine of New Haven, Indiana; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Katherine in death were one daughter, Marilyn J. Ritchhart on August 23, 1970; and three brothers, Harold E., Noah L., and Ronald R. Spencer. A 9:25 a.m. Prayer Service will be held Friday, March 11, 2001 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana followed by at 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian burial in the St. Louis Besancon Catholic Church, New Haven, Indiana with Fr. Stephen Colchin officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery - Besancon. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana. A Vigil Service will be at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Preferred memorials are Masses to the church; National Kidney Foundation; or St. Louis Academy.
