Victoria Gertrude Girod

Victoria Gertrude Girod, 85 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 6:20 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2006 in the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Victoria was born on September 30, 1921 in Marion, Indiana, the daughter of the late W. P. Mitchell and the late Cecelia (Pfeiffer) Mitchell. She married the late Arthur Henry Girod M.D. on July 18, 1948 in Upland, Indiana, and he passed away on June 8, 1994. Victoria served in the United States Navy during World War II, as a Wave 2nd Class She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Decatur, Indiana, where she had served as an Elder. She had also received the Thanks Badge in Scouting. Victoria graduated from high school in Hartford City, Indiana and attended the Wishard Memorial School of Nursing in Indianapolis, Indiana. Victoria was a retired nurse and homemaker. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Ron (Terri) Borne of Decatur, Indiana, son, Dennis E. (Julia) Girod of Eugene, Oregon, son, Larry D. (Joyce) Girod of New Concord, Ohio, sister, Mrs. James (Virginia) Huston of Bradenton, Florida, ten grandchildren: Jana Hyten, Matt Hyten, Julie McEldowney, Jason McEldowney, Janelle Girod, Jarrod Girod, Olivia Girod, Victoria Girod, Jill McBride, and Chad McBride; and five great-grandchildren: Ben Hyten, Brittany Hyten, Garrett Hyten, Tori Hyten and Maggie McEldowney. Preceding Victoria in death were one daughter, Pamela Girod; one son, Michael Girod (infancy); and two brothers, Wayne Mitchell and Robert J. Mitchell. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 20, 2006 in the Zion United Church of Christ with Pastor Linn Bertling officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery, Decatur, Indiana. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, October 19, 2006 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Preferred memorials are to Zion United Church of Christ or the donor's choice.
