Walter Nuerge

Walter Nuerge, 87 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2008 in the Ossian Health Care Center. He was born on Monday, May 16, 1921 in Decatur, Indiana the son of Carl and Ida (Dirkson) Nuerge. He married Esther Thieme on December 16, 1945 and she passed away on August 19, 2000. Walter served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim and the American Legion Post #43 of Decatur. He was co-owner of Conrad & Nuerge Construction and was a Preble Township farmer. Surviving are his son, Rev. Roger D. (Mary) Nuerge of Freedom, Pennsylvania, son, Ned D. (Judith) Nuerge of Oakland, California, daughter, Ellen (Dennis) Ord of Greenville, Ohio, son, Van B. Nuerge of Decatur, Indiana, sister, Mildred Rohrbach of Fort Wayne, Indiana, special friend, Pearl Whetstone of Decatur, Indiana, eleven grandchildren; Sarah Nuerge, Tara Nuerge, Justin Nuerge, Joel (Heather) Nuerge, Mariah Nuerge, Shannon (Travis) Schenck, Sean Ord, Michael Nuerge, Amanda Nuerge, Kyle Nuerge & Emmalese Nuerge and one great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Schultz. Preceding Walter in death were one granddaughter, Lara Schultz on December 28, 2000 and two brothers, Edgar and Paul Nuerge. A prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2008, in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim with Rev. Daniel Dahling officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Friedheim. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Adams Post #43 Color Guard. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 15, 2008 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur. Preferred memorials are to the Cemetery Fund at Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim, Wyneken Lutheran School or the Heart Club of Adams County.
