Elmer F. Benzinger, 85 years old of Hoagland, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2010 in the Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home located in Fort Wayne. He was born on Saturday, August 23, 1924 in Allen County, Indiana the son of the late William F. Benzinger and the late Emma D. (Roehrs) Benzinger. He married Doris L. Benzinger on November 8, 1947 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Elmer was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Monroeville and the American Legion Post #420 in Monroeville. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII, where he was in China & Burma in the Asiatic theater of Operations and retired from Essex Wire with over thirty-six years of service. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Doris L. Benzinger of Hoagland, son, E. Wayne Benzinger of Fort Wayne, son, D. Michael (Debbie) Benzinger of Roanoke, daughter, Donna J. (Glenn) Borror of Bluffton, son, Mark A. (Jody) Benzinger of Hoagland, sister, Gert Savage of Fort Wayne, sister, Marilyn (Delmer "Bud") Felger of Fort Wayne, sister, Ruth Gross of Rome City, sister, Helen (Richard) Baumgarte of Fort Wayne, sister, Doris Holmes of Hoagland, sister, Mildred Nagle of Fort Wayne, brother, Richard (Judy) Benzinger of Fort Wayne, thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Preceding Elmer in death were two brothers, Harold & Gerhardt Benzinger and one sister, Elsie Kiefer. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010 in the St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Rev. William Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 19 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Preferred memorials are to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home.
