Edward L. Wolfe, 85 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 7:35 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2009 in the Adams Memorial Hospital located in Decatur. Ed was born on Sunday, September 16, 1923 in Monroe, Indiana the son of the late Ranza Wolfe and the late Bertha B. (Bailey) Wolfe. He married the late Joann M. Krauss on June 8, 1947 in Terre, Haute, Indiana and she passed away on February 13, 2001. Ed was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur; American Legion Post #43, Decatur; a lifetime member of St. Mary's Blue Creek Conservation Club; lifetime member of I U Alumni; a member of the VFW Post #6751 in Geneva, Indiana; and the American Society for Quality Control. In 1941 Ed graduated from Decatur High School and continued his education at Indiana University where he graduated with a degree in Management & Administration. During World War II Ed served his country in the United States Army. He was a rifleman who landed at Normandy on June 6, 1944 and also fought in Northern France. Ed retired in 1982 from North American Van Lines with 13 years of service and was previously employed with Central Soya in Quality Control with 25 1/2 years of service. Surviving are his daughter, Karen (Charles) Gray of Terre Haute, Indiana; daughter, Vicki Harding of Tucson, Arizona; son, Gary A. Wolfe of Bryant, Indiana; son, Bruce D. Wolfe of Houston, Texas; brother, Roy R. Wolfe of St. Helen, Michigan; sister, Lucile Railing of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Faye Foreman of Tauares, Florida; brother, Norman Wolfe of Angola, Indiana; brother, Robert Wolfe of Syracuse, Indiana; sister, Virginia Higgins of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Lea Jean McBride of Clermont, Florida; ten grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Preceding Ed in death were two brothers, Merlin and Melvin Wolfe. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2009 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Phifer officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery on Engle Road in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana. Preferred memorials are to Adams County Community Foundation-Cancer Fund, Zion Lutheran School, or American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
