James L. Frey, 73 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 3:22 a.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2007 in the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana located in Fort Wayne. James was born on April 8, 1933 in New Haven, Indiana, the son of the late Carl H. and Fern E. (Shackley)Frey. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Garner on October 8, 1955 in Decatur, Indiana. James was a longtime active member of Decatur Church of God where he served on Church Council, Board of Christian Education and Board of Building & Grounds. He was an assistant Sunday School Superintendent and sang in the Men's Four Quartet and later the Cornerstones. James was a graduate of Pleasant Mills High School Class of 1951 and served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Alaska. He retired from International Harvester in 1982 with 31 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Marilyn Frey of Decatur, Indiana, son, Gary L. Frey of Decatur, Indiana, son, Randy Frey of Decatur, Indiana, son, Matthew T. Frey of Decatur, Indiana, brother, Wayne Frey of Big Long Lake, Indiana, brother, Bob Frey of Edon, Ohio, brother, Charles Frey of Decatur, Indiana, brother, Keith Frey of Decatur, Indiana, brother, Rodger Frey of Decatur, Indiana, brother, John Frey of St. George, Utah, sister, Mary (Richard) Butler of Front Royal, Virginia, four grandsons: Dusty Frey of Decatur, Caleb Frey of Decatur, Joel Frey of Decatur, Marc Frey of Decatur, also three granddaughters: Amber Rose Frey of Geneva, Kate Frey of Decatur and Becca Frey also of Decatur. Preceding James in death were one infant daughter, Carolyn Sue Frey and one brother, Lloyd "Bud" Frey. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 5, 2007 in the Decatur Church of God with Dr. Robert Brink officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery, Decatur, Indiana. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2007 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Preferred memorials are to Decatur Church of God-Youth Ministry, Riley Children's Hospital, American Diabetes Association or Adams County Home Health.
