Emmit Junior Owens, 84 years old of Apollo Beach, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 in the Palm Gardens Nursing Home located in Sun City Center, Florida. He was born on Wednesday, August 30, 1922 in Decatur, Indiana the son of the late Forest Owens and the late Ada (Reppert) Owens. He married the late Gromania Kathryn Hannie on March 12, 1944 in Decatur, Indiana. She passed away on June 21, 1987. Emmit served his country in the United States Army Air Corps in the Philippines during World War II and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Decatur, Indiana and the American Legion Post #43 in Decatur. Emmit was a tool and die maker at General Electric in Fort Wayne, Indiana before starting his own building and architectural millwork business. He later worked for Sawell Inc. and Black and Decker in Tampa, Florida before retiring. Surviving are his son, Ronald W. (Charma) Owens of Apollo Beach, Florida, son, Rodney L. (Debra) Owens of Delaware, Ohio, sister, Phyllis A. Smith of Fort Wayne, Indiana, sister, Helen J. Ogg of Decatur, Indiana, granddaughter, Amy J. (Richard) O'Hara of Apollo Beach, Florida, granddaughter, Kristina L. (John) Hoffman of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, grandson, Jarrod Owens of Delaware, Ohio, grandson, Dustin (Tiffany) Owens of Delaware, Ohio, granddaughter, Jenna R. (Justin) Chenault of Delaware, Ohio, great-granddaughter, Brittany Farber of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, great-grandson, Logan Hoffman of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, great-grandson, Andrew O'Hara of Apollo Beach, Florida, and great-granddaughter, Kylie Chenault of Delaware, Ohio. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2007 in the Zion United Church of Christ with Rev. Randy Rossman officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Adams Post 43 Color Guard in the Decatur Cemetery immediately following the memorial service. Preferred memorials are to the Zion United Church of Christ.
