Waneta A. Franz, 87 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 3:30 a.m. on Friday, January 20, 2012 in the Woodcrest Nursing Center located in Decatur. Waneta was born on Tuesday, April 29, 1924 in Adams County, Indiana the daughter of the late Martin Conrad and the late Frieda (Bauermeister) Conrad. She married the late Richard C. Franz on March 13, 1943 in Decatur, Indiana and he passed away on September 23, 1998. Waneta was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling. At church she was involved with the Ladies Aid and the church choir for a number of years. She was also actively involved with Project Compassion through St. Peter Lutheran Church. Waneta was a homemaker. Surviving are her son, Kent R. (fiancé Sandy Trowbridge) Franz of Monroeville, Indiana; son, Ronald W. (Marjorie) Franz of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Janell (Ed) Harper of Monroeville, Indiana; daughter, Lou Ann (William) Berry of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Donna (Dale) Schlemmer of Gladstone, Michigan; brother, Marvin (Laurina) Conrad of Decatur, Indiana; brother, Waldo (Doris) Conrad of Decatur, Indiana; sister-in-law, Hildegard Conrad of Decatur, Indiana; nine grandchildren: Jackie Sanderson, Jenny Sprunger, Josh Franz, Oona Hackbush, Erin Smith, Zak Schlemmer, Pete Schlemmer, Derek Franz, and Jordyn Franz; eight great-grandchildren: Alexis Sanderson, Sydney Sanderson, Cally Wilken, Hannah Wilken, Jenna Wilken, Vada Hackbush, Aristotle Hackbush, and Ian Smith. Preceding Waneta in death were one brother, Adelbert Conrad; grandson, Scott Wilken; daughter-in-law, Sandra Franz. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2012 in the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling with Rev. Martin Moehring officiating. Interment will follow in the St Peter Lutheran Cemetery. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2012 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Preferred memorials are to St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling; or Worship For Shut-Ins.
