Edward L. Summers

Edward L. Summers, 98 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at his residence. Edward was born on Saturday, June 20, 1914 in Decatur, IN the son of the late Lloyd E. Summers and the late Rose E. (Hoffman) Summers. He married the late Kathryn L. Reef on August 4, 1948 and she passed away on July 27, 1992. Edward was a member of the Cornerstone Community Church (formerly Decatur Missionary Church) in Decatur; the Adams County Historical Society; the Adams County Amateur Radio Club; the National Rifle Association; Adams County Coin Club; and was previously a Boy Scout Master for Troop #63. Ed retired from Howard Sober in 1976 with 35 years of service. Ed served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression where he helped construct the Quabache State Park in Bluffton, Indiana. Surviving are his son, Kermit Summers of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Judy (John) Knaupp of Rickreall, Oregon; brother, R. Thomas Summers of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister, Evelyn (Allen) Felt of Hoagland, Indiana; grandson, John (Angela) Summers; grandson, Philip (Alissa) Summers; and four great-grandchildren: Katie Summers, Luke Summers, Corbin Summers, and Cameron Summers. Preceding Edward in death were two brothers, Walter & James Summers; and three sisters, Mary Johnson, Martha Morris, and Dorothy Lunn. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Hogg officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana. Preferred memorials are to Cornerstone Community Church.
