Robert T. Helm, 92 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2010 in Parkview Hospital located in Fort Wayne. He was born on Wednesday, September 4, 1918 in Adams County, Indiana the son of the late John F. Helm and the late Lola C. (Wherry) Helm. He married Rosali P. Miller on August 26, 1940 in Paulding, Ohio and she passed away on May 25, 2003. Bob served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ where he served as a deacon for six years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #43 in Decatur and was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Decatur Golf League for thirty-five years having won Match Play twice and was runner-up in the City Golf Tournament five times. Bob retired in 1977 with twenty-five years of service with Associated Truck Lines and he had previously been employed with the shipping department of the Shafer Company for six years. After retirement he worked as the custodian of Zion United Church of Christ for twelve years and also worked for Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home as the lawn caretaker. Surviving are his daughter, Cynthia G. (Max) Royer of Fort Wayne, sister, Mary Miller of Decatur and grandson, Adam (Brandy) Royer of Fort Wayne. Preceding Robert in death were one grandson, Shanon Royer and three brothers; Arthur, Kenneth, & James Helm. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2011 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Rossman officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors to be conducted by American Legion Post #43, Decatur. Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, January 4 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur. Preferred memorials are to Zion United Church of Christ or the donor's choice.
