Roy Bixler, 93 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2010 in the Woodcrest Nursing Center where he had been a patient for 9 days. He was born on Friday, August 11, 1916 in Adams County, Indiana the son of the late John B. Bixler and the late Lovina (Flory) Bixler. He married Dorothy Heckman on October 18, 1947 in Adams County, Indiana Roy was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen and a former deacon and school board member during construction of the church school. He was a farmer and retired in 1982 from International Harvester with over twelve years of service as a mechanic. He had previously worked at ABC Coach Lines for over twenty-six years. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Bixler of Decatur, son, Don A. Bixler of Decatur, son, John L. (Terri) Bixler of Fort Wayne, brother, Virgil Bixler of Decatur, sister, Mrs. Lester (Marjorie) Zimmerman of Berne, five grandchildren; Mrs. J.D. (Stacey) Pulver, Matthew (HyunJu) Bixler, John, Erin & Nathan Bixler and two great-grandchildren; Madalyn & Carson Pulver. Preceding Roy in death were four sisters Sylvia Hanni, Orpha Spahr, Frances Moser & Nellie Idlewine and three brothers, Dale, Glenn and Clifford Bixler. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2010 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen with Pastor John Dreyer officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery , Bingen. Friends will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur,and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen or Worship for Shut-Ins.
