Donna J. Schieferstein, 69 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at her residence on Friday, August 1, 2008, her 44th wedding anniversary. Her death followed a five-year bout with leukemia. She was born on Friday, June 9, 1939 in Filer City, Michigan the daughter of the late Edward G. Minster and the late Doris M. (Raschke) Minster. She married Richard H. Schieferstein on August 1, 1964 in Manistee, Michigan. Donna was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen and the Ladies Guild of the church. Following her 1957 graduation from Manistee High School in Michigan, Donna graduated from Concordia Teacher's College in River Forrest, Illinois in 1961 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She was employed as an elementary school teacher at Wyneken Lutheran School from 1972 until her retirement in 2003. Prior to her position at Wyneken, she was a teacher at Immanuel Lutheran School in Union Township for 4 1/2 years. She continued her involvement at Wynekan as a volunteer after her retirement. Surviving are her husband, Richard H. Schieferstein of Decatur, Indiana, son, Douglas (Dawn) Schieferstein of Decatur, Indiana, daughter, Joy A. (companion, Fernanado Carvajal) Chrisman of New Haven, Indiana, daughter, Sue E. Schieferstein of Decatur, Indiana, brother, Robert (Pat) Minster of Manistee, Michigan, sister, Judy (Ron) Wicinski of Brighton, Michigan and nine grandchildren; Logan, Shelby, Hailey, Madison, Anthony & Nathasha Schieferstein, Michaela & Benjamin Chrisman & Alexis Carvajal. Preceding Donna in death was one brother, Douglas Minster. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2008 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen with Pastor Daniel Dahling & Pastor Daniel Brege officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Bingen. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 4 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Preferred memorials are to Wyneken Lutheran School or St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen.
