Kent D. Whitacre, 64 years old of Monroe, Indiana, passed away at 2:36 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, 2012 in the Adams Memorial Hospital located in Decatur, Indiana following a 3 year battle with cancer. Kent was born on Friday, November 14, 1947 in Decatur, Indiana the son of the late DeVon Whitacre and the late Alberta (Weil) Whitacre. He married Jill Berryman on January 10, 1970 at North Highland Church of Christ in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and she survives. Kent was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Chattanooga, Ohio; the V.F.W. Post #6236 in Decatur; the Masonic Lodge #571 in Decatur; the Scottish Rite F&M in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Kent served his country in the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War, serving on the USS Thomaston-LSD 28. Kent was the owner and operator of B & K Hydraulics in Monroe for 37 years; was also a life-long farmer in Blue Creek Township. Kent enjoyed traveling and attending festivals and tractor shows with Jill. He was a former member of the Blue Creek Conservation Club. He also enjoyed metal detecting and ham radio operation. Surviving are his wife, Jill Whitacre of Monroe, IN; daughter, Tina (Jeff) Crook of Canal Fulton, OH; daughter, Nicole Whitacre of Ft. Wayne, IN; son, Scott (Jennifer) Whitacre of Woodburn, IN; best friend, Max (Fox Rat Terrier); and 4 grandchildren: Brandon Crook, Emily Crook, Trenton Crook, and Kyle Crook. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Rev. Don Bachman officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, in Chatt, Ohio. Graveside Military Honors will conducted by the Adams County Color Guard. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m.Tuesday, November 13, 2012 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to Zion Lutheran Church in Chattanooga, Ohio; or the Adams Memorial Hospital-Strickler Cancer Institute.
