Carl A. Gromeaux, 93 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at his residence. He was born on Tuesday, November 28, 1919 in Allen County, Indiana the son of the late Eli Gromeaux and the late Agnes (Gibson) Gromeaux. He married Dorothy A. Murphy on September 22, 1945. Carl served in the United States Army during WWII, rising to the rank of Private First Class. In the European Theater, during the Rhineland Campaign of 1944, Carl was captured by the Germans and spent time as a prisoner of war. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville and the Monroeville American Legion Post #420. Carl retired from International Harvester in 1976 with over thirty years of service. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy A. Gromeaux of Decatur; daughter, Sheila (James) Harrington of Hoagland; daughter, Andrea (Dale) Gromeaux-Schnaith of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Ryann Harrington, Tarrah Altevogt and Brett Harrington; and seven great-grandchildren, Blake Altevogt, Aiden Altevogt, Hannah Harrington, Whitney Harrington, Gabriel Harrington, Grace Harrington, & Charlotte Harrington. Preceding Carl in death were four brothers, Elmer, Gaylord, Merlin, and Leslie Gromeaux; and five sisters, Goldie Baker, Marcella Reuille, Pearl Gerardot, Theresa Thomas, and Velma Rohrbaugh. A Prayer Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, February 4, 2013 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the St. Rose Catholic Church with Fr. Stephen Colchin officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Rose Catholic Cemetery with Military Graveside Services conducted by American Legion Post #420 Color Guard. Friends will be received from noon to 3 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, February 3 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville. A rosary service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Legion Post #420 of Monroeville or the St. Rose Catholic Church.
