Richard W. Sprunger

Richard W. "Hap" Sprunger, 67 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013 in the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana. He was born on Sunday, July 29, 1945 in Van Wert, Ohio the son of the late Roman M. Sprunger and the late Audra E. "Dollie" (Chronister) Sprunger. He was married to Martha H. Bleeke on October 14, 1967 in Decatur, Indiana and she passed away on April 29, 2009. He married Carolyn M. Lambert on November 10, 2012 and she survives. Hap retired from General Electric in Decatur and North Adams Community Schools. He served as pastor for Pleasant Mills Baptist Church and had previously served as associate pastor for Willshire United Brethren Church. He also served as an Adams County Animal Control officer. He was a member of the Willshire Sportsman's Club. Hap loved to hunt, fish, garden, and golf. Golfing was his second love. He loved watching I.U. Basketball and also going to his granddaughter's activities. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn M. Sprunger of Decatur; daughter, Tammy (Jason) Rumschlag of Goshen, Indiana; daughter, Tonya (Francis) Maag of Paulding, Ohio; son, Chad (Jenny) Sprunger of Decatur; step-daughter, Lori Hakes of Decatur; brother, Edward A. (Lila) Sprunger of Decatur; and sister, Ann L. (Ted) Miller of Decatur. He was also survived by six granddaughters, Brittney Rumschlag; Bailea Sprunger; Abigail Rumschlag; Alicia Maag; Kaylen Sprunger; & Rachelle Maag and three step-grandchildren, Mindy Lehrman; Alyssa Lehrman; & Andrew Hakes. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 14, 2013 in the Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Phil Phifer officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Friends will be received from 1 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 13 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Preferred memorials are to Mt. Zion United Brethren Church in Bobo.
