Floyd I. McBride, 79 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 2:06 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 in the Lutheran Hospital located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born on Wednesday, September 13, 1933 in Wells County, Indiana the son of the late Lee Forrest McBride and the late Violiet (Smitley) McBride. He married Rochelle L. (Jones) Smitley on January 6, 1979 in Berne, Indiana and she survives. Floyd was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur, where he was active in the Praise Team. During the 1990's Floyd went on four missions trips to Jamaica with the First Missionary Church of Berne. He was a member of the Decatur Moose Lodge #1311 for fifty years and the Barber Shoppers of Decatur Chapter for twelve years, where he served as a past president. Floyd was a graduate of Decatur High School Class of 1951. He loved to play the harmonica and crochet afghans that were given to the Methodist Church for their Caring Cover Ministry. He owned and operated McBride Welding in Decatur, Indiana. The business was started by Floyd's grandfather, Ira McBride, and his father, Lee McBride, in 1946. The business is now operated by Floyd's son, Brad McBride, since 1984 when Floyd retired after 32 years. Floyd and Rochelle have a blended family. Surviving are his wife, Rochelle L. McBride of Decatur; son, Brad McBride of Decatur; daughter, Dawn (Jack) Crandal of Churubusco, Indiana; daughter, Linn (Carl) Fore of Decatur; daughter, Mona (Joe) Smith of Decatur; daughter, Jody Garwood of Decatur; daughter, LaNae (John) Abnet of Berne; son, Jeffrey (Denise) Smitley of Vandalia, Michigan; daughter, Cassandra (Blair) Ballard of Lakeland, Florida; brother, Matthew McBride of Huntertown, Indiana; sister, Georgie (Glen) Mygrant of Bluffton, Indiana; sister, Lana (Gene) Wolfe of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister, Brenda (Mark) Frisch of Fort Wayne, Indiana; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Floyd in death were a grandson, Randy Weiland; and a great-grandson, Daniel McBride. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013 in the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Martha Lyon officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2013 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Preferred memorials are to Praise Team of the First United Methodist Church.
