Evelyn (Christener) Espich

July 27, 1920 — April 12, 2013

Evelyn (Christener) Espich, 92 years old of Monroe, Indiana, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013 at Woodcrest Nursing Center. She was born on Tuesday, July 27, 1920 in Monroe, Indiana the daughter of the late Harvey Bovine and the late Nellie Marie (Worden) Bovine. She married John Christener, Jr. on October 13, 1936 in the Monroe Friends Parish and he passed away on December 19, 1974. Evelyn was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, helped with the youth, and was involved in the United Methodist Women. She loved to sew and make quilts. She retired from CTS in Berne in March of 1983 with twenty years of service. Surviving are her daughter, Carolyn Kae (Marvin) Taylor of Monroe; daughter, Marilyn Mae Schaadt of Monroe; son, Robert Gene (Carolyn) Christener of Monroe; half-brother, Albert L. (Minnie) Andrews of Decatur; half-sister, Leah M. (Merlin) Zurcher of Berne; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren. Preceding Evelyn in death were a brother, William Bovine; a half-brother, Paul L. Andrews; a granddaughter, Dina Girod; and a great grandson, Benjamin Roehs. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur with Pastor Susan Roehs officiating. Interment will follow in the M.R.E. Cemetery in Berne, Indiana. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 15 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and from 12:00 NOON until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to ACCF Benjamin Roehs Scholarship or ACCF Donor Advised Dina Starr Girod.
