Gordon C. Suman

Gordon C. Suman, 87 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2013 in Woodcrest Nursing Center. He was born on Thursday, April 23, 1925 in Decatur, Indiana the son of the late Harry Suman and the late Bessie (Drummond). He married Lois Eileen Miller on March 28, 1947 in Van Wert, Ohio and she passed away on June 16, 2007. Gordon served his country in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Second Marine Division during WWII and was involved in the invasion of Saipan and also was stationed at Hagasaki at the end of the war. He was a member of Praise Point United Brethren Church in Willshire, Ohio. He was also a member of the American Legion Homer Pierson Post #207 in Willshire, Ohio. Gordon was a lifelong farmer south of Pleasant Mills and in Jay County. In addition to his love of farming, he was also employed by CTS in Berne for fifteen years and had also been the custodian for the Pleasant Mills School. Surviving are his son, David (Beth) Suman of Decatur; daughter, Vicki (Fred) Bollenbacher of Rockford, Ohio; daughter, Jayne (Richard) Ridenour of Pennville, Indiana; son, Bill Suman of Pennville, Indiana; daughter, Sue (Mark) Bellante of Pennville, Indiana; brother, Rev. Harold (Lorena) Suman of Defiance, Ohio; brother, Rev. Floyd (Ellen) Suman of Ashland, Kentucky, brother, Donald (Jane) Suman of Decatur; sister, Ruth (Richard) Hurst of Decatur; sixteen grandchildren; and thirty-one great-grandchildren. Preceding Gordon in death were a sister, Dora Mae Rayl; seven brothers, Walter; Lester; Earl; Otho; John; Harry; and Kenneth Suman; and a grandson, Mikel Suman. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013 in the Praise Point United Brethren Church with Rev. Ernie Suman, Rev. Sam Suman, and Rev. Mark Rutledge officiating. Interment will follow in the Willshire Cemetery with Military Graveside Services to be conducted by the American Legion Post #207 Color Guard. Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2013 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Preferred memorials are to Praise Point Church of Willshire, Ohio.
