Franklin H. Akins, 77 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 in the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana. He was born on Wednesday, September 25, 1935 in St. Joe, Indiana the son of the late Hollis B. Akins and the late Josephine (Bechtel) Akins. He married Ruby Lee and she preceded him in death on September 12, 1974. He was then married to Patricia R. Akins on December 28, 1984 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Frank served his country in the United States Army. He retired in 1983 from International Harvester with twenty years of service. He then worked at Summit City Meats in New Haven, Indiana from 1987 to 1989; Walton Metals in Fort Wayne, Indiana from 1990 to 1991; and was a former manager of Spalls Mobile Home Park in Monroeville, Indiana in the late 1990's. Surviving are his wife, Patricia R. Akins of Monroeville; son, Mark A. (Steffani) Akins of Stuttgart, Germany; son, Matthew A. Akins of Muncie; step-son, Christopher J. (Rebecca) Voirol of Kendallville; step-daughter, Angela A. Brockhouse-Voirol of Monroeville; step-daughter, Lora (Jimmy) Hewitt of Hilton Head, South Carolina; sister, Helen C. (Jim) Boschet of Fort Wayne; and sister, Mary A. (Rick) Rhoades of Arizona. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Ben Akins; Samantha Akins; C.J. Voirol; Amanda Fuller; Dustin Voirol; John Heintzelman; Heather Voirol; Allison McWaters; & Ansley Hewitt; two great-grandchildren, Mason & Lillian and one great great-grandchild, Chloe. Preceding Franklin in death were one a son, Michael Akins; a step-daughter, Lisa Voirol; and two brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, with Chaplain Karen Kossberg officiating. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 & 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville and one hour prior to services Saturday also at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to Monroeville EMS, Monroeville Fire Department, or Parkview Hospice.
