John Allen Bittner, 55 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013 in Decatur. He was born on Tuesday, January 14, 1958 in Decatur, Indiana the son of the late Frederick Clarence Bittner, Jr. and Patricia J. (Abbott) Bittner. He married Lydia M. Middleton on January 18, 1986 in Parchment Methodist Church in Parchment, Michigan. John was a former member of the Decatur Missionary Church and was a 1976 graduate of Bellmont High School. He was a lifelong dairy farmer and had worked for the State of Michigan Agricultural Department and had also worked at CTS in Berne, Indiana. Surviving are his wife, Lydia M. Bittner of Parchment, Michigan; mother, Patsy Bittner of Decatur; sister, Darlene K. Bittner of Decatur; brother, Steven (Joyce) Bittner of Decatur; brother, Mark (Lori) Bittner of Convoy, Ohio; brother, Thomas (Carrie) Bittner of Decatur; and brother, James (Stacey) Bittner of Decatur. He is also survived by two nieces, Megan Bittner & Michelle (Dominick) Brown; six nephews, Andrew (Allison) Bittner; Matthew Bittner; Bradly Bittner; Jaron Bittner; Daniel Bittner; & Luke Bittner and one great-niece, Adelyn Bittner. Preceding John in death was a niece, Ashley Bittner. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Family & friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 29 in the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to Bellmont High School FFA.
