Rick Alan Steiner, 58, of Berne, Indiana went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 5:45 a.m. at home in his wife's arms and surrounded by family following an extended illness. Rick was born February 10, 1955 in Decatur, Indiana to the late Merlin Steiner and Carolyn (Bixler)Steiner. Rick married Nancy Hurst on May 1, 1977 and she survives. Rick was a graduate of South Adams High School Class of 1973 and was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Berne, Indiana. Rick served on the Soil & Water Conservation Board; the 4-H Swine Committee; and the French Township Insurance Advisory Board. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Steiner of Berne; two sons, Andrew "Andy" (Deby) Steiner and Scott (Amber) Steiner, both of Berne; his mother, Carolyn Steiner of Berne; and two sisters, Sondra (Phil) Litwiller and Kathy (Ted) Liechty both of Berne. He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother -in law, Carl "Gene" & Shirley Hurst of Decatur; and four grandchildren, Matthew; Hayley; Gabriel; & Grady Steiner all of Berne. Rick was preceded in death by one son, Matthew Ryan Steiner; his father, Merlin Steiner; and a sister, Deb Becknell. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013 in the First Mennonite Church in Berne, Indiana with Pastor Jerry Flueckiger and Pastor Jeff Linthicum officiating. Interment will follow in the MRE Cemetery in rural Berne, Indiana. Family and friends will be from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in the Family Life Center at the First Mennonite Church in Berne, Indiana and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Preferred memorials are to the grandchildren's education fund or donor's choice.
