Richard D. Baumgartner, 65 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 in the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana. Richard was born on Tuesday, February 10, 1948 in Brazil, Indiana the son of the late Richard L. Baumgartner and the late Miladeen (Scott) Baumgartner. He married Bonnie J. (White) Hendricks on August 10, 1996. Richard was a member of the F.& A.M. Lodge in Clay City, Indiana; St Mark's United Methodist Church in Decatur, Indiana; and the Wild Turkey Federation. Richard served his country in the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam War. He loved Hot Rods, motorcycles, outdoor sports, traveling with his wife Bonnie, reading, and spending time with his grandchildren. He especially loved his dogs Harley and Haley. Richard was a Physician's Assistant and was formerly employed by the Indiana Prison System at Plainfield, then worked with Dr. Whitney in Mooresville, Indiana; and then with Adams Memorial Hospital, working with Dr. Mark Gresla. Surviving are his wife, Bonnie J. Baumgartner of Decatur; daughter, Dee Dee (Jesse) Belleu of Brazil, Indiana; son, James (Katy) Baumgartner of Danville, Indiana; step-daughter, Rhonda Hendricks of Fort Myers, Florida; step-son, Steven Hendricks of Marion, Indiana; sister, Susan Kay (Kevin) Grabriel of Brazil, Indiana; brother, Harold Wayne Baumgartner of Mishawaka, Indiana; brother, Bruce Allen (Jill) Baumgartner of Coal City, Indiana; brother, Kent Ray (Donnella) Baumgartner of Clay City, Indiana; three grandchildren: Brandon Belleu, Aidan Belleu, and T.J. Baumgartner; and two step-grandchildren: Austin Hendricks and Clare Hendricks. Preceding Richard in death were paternal grandparents, Ralph & Margaret Baumgartner; maternal grandparents, Harley & Naomi Scott; great-nephew, Eric Baumgartner; and great-niece, Ryanne Baumgartner. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013 in the St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Decatur with Pastor Phil Emerson officiatig. Funeral services will also be held in Clay City, Indiana on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Clay City. Military Graveside Services will be conducted by American Legion Post #0840 of Clay City. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013 in the St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Decatur. Visitation will continue in Clay City at the Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Monday, October 21, 2013 at the Assembly of God Church. Preferred memorials are to donor's choice.
