Gene R. Williamson, 75 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2013 in the Adams Memorial Hospital after being stricken at home. Gene was born on Saturday, April 9, 1938 in Decatur, Indiana the son of the late Earl N. "Dutch" Williamson and the late Helen May (Brown) Williamson. He married Helen M. Roth on August 30, 1957 in Adams County, Indiana and she survives. Gene was a member of the American Legion Post #43 - Decatur; Moose Lodge #1311-Decatur; Eagles Lodge-Decatur; former member of the Jaycees; former Monroe Little League Coach; former officer in the Adams Central Athletic Booster Club; former Board Member of the Phelps Dodge Credit Union. Gene retired in 2000 from Phelps Dodge in Ft. Wayne after 44 years of service. Following his retirement, he became a handyman to many in the community, drawing on his experience working at Phelps Dodge. Surviving are his wife, Helen M. Williamson of Decatur, IN; daughter, Tammy (Barry) Ratcliff of Decatur, IN; son, Barry (Candace) Williamson of Decatur, IN; daughter, Joy (John) Heller of Preble, IN; brother, Jerry D. Williamson of Decatur, IN; sister, Cheryll (Tom) Eyanson of Decatur, IN; sister-in-law, Donna Williamson of Willshire, OH; eight grandchildren: B. J. Ratcliff, Brandy (Bret) Grover, Brooke Ratcliff, Jessie (Eric) Myers, Jeff Heller, Brian Williamson, Sara Williamson, and Lance Williamson; three great-grandchildren: Max Myers, Brielle Grover, and Brionna Grover. Preceding Gene in death were one brother, Norman "Butch" Williamson; one sister-in-law, Judy Williamson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2013 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Gebert officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt Tabor Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2013 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, IN. Preferred memorials are to Mt. Victory U.B. Church Good Samaritan Fund or American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
