Donald Menter, 74 years old of Decatur, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his four daughters. He was born on Wednesday, October 14, 1939 in Adams County, Indiana the son of the late Carl W. Menter and the late Edna (Kirchner) Menter. He married Gertrude Taylor on March 29, 1959 in Adams County and she passed away on August 7, 2004. Donald served his country in the United States Air Force in France during the Berlin Crisis. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Preble. He was also a member of American Legion Post #43; Moose Lodge #1311; Elks Lodge; and the Eagles Lodge. Donald was owner and operator of Preble Roofing & Spouting and had also been owner of Roto Rooter for 24 years. He was an avid hunter & fisherman and loved NASCAR & basketball; coaching at Wyneken for many years. He also enjoyed watching his daughters play sports. Surviving are four daughters, Shelly (Chris) Meyer of Preble; Donna (Chris) Scheumann of Bluffton; Jenny Piper of Decatur; Karla (David) Hatcher of Fishers; & a sister, Margie (Jim) Merriman of Preble. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Luke (Raegan); Lacy; Sarah; Corey; Hannah; Whitney; Ashley; Benjamen; Garrett; Makayla; Rhett & Kendal and two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn & Logan. Preceding Donald in death was a grandson, Cody Allen Crabbs. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2013 in the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble with Pastor Daniel Brege officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 3 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Preferred memorials are to Family LifeCare Hospice in Berne.
