Raymond L. Gibson, 75 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness but his death was unexpected. Ray was born on Monday, August 22, 1938 in Monroeville, IN the son of the late Lloyd Gibson and the late Dorothy (Baker) Gibson. He married Mary Jo Weaver on October 19, 1957 in Auburn, Indiana and she survives. Ray was a member of the Standardbred Horse Association. Among Ray's many loves in life, he greatly enjoyed working in his garden. He was also a wealth of knowledge that was lovingly and freely passed down to his family...whether they wanted it or not. Ray retired in November 1997 from B.F. Goodrich in Woodburn. In addition to his employment at Goodrich, Ray was a lifelong farmer and raised Standardbred race horses on his homestead. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Mary Jo Gibson of Monroeville, IN; son, Rodney (Terri) Gibson of Monroeville, IN; daughter, Rhonda (Mark) Scheumann of Hoagland, IN; son, Randy (Therese) Gibson of Monroeville, IN; daughter, Rae (Randy) Fluttrow of Monroeville, IN; sister, Sharon (Maury) Springer of Ft. Wayne, IN; 15 Grandchildren: Craig, Sarah, Dianna, Marissa, Derek, Jared, Melinda, Edward, Kenton, Ashley, Daniel, Matthew, Zachary, Joshua, and Austin; and 10 Great-Grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel 111 South Water Street in Monroeville, IN with Rev. Harold Klinker officiating. Interment will follow in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery. Friends will be received from 1-4 and 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2013 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, 111 South Water St. in Monroeville, IN and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.
