Norman D. Wenger, 85 years old of Decatur, Indiana, died peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family on Thursday, December 12, 2013. He was born on Sunday, August 12, 1928 in Wells County, Indiana the son of the late Fred Wenger and the late Sarah (Michel) Wenger. He married Julia J. "Judy" Smith on June 18, 1949 in Bluffton, Indiana and she passed away on July 5, 2012. Norman was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur for over fifty years. He retired from Indiana Michigan Electric Company (AEP) in 1988 with over 44 years of service. Surviving are his daughter, Sandy (George) LaTurner of Decatur; daughter, Lisa (Rick Thornton) Hirn of Decatur; daughter-in-law, Darlene Wenger of Decatur; brother, Donald (Ann) Wenger of Fort Wayne; and sister, Betty Bercot of Berne. He was also survived by 11 grandchildren: Rod DeRoo, Matt DeRoo, Aaron (Tina) LaTurner, Josh (Lisa) LaTurner, Craig (Ricci) Wenger, Michael (DeeDee Jaurigue) Wenger, Karen (Mark) Stahl, Melissa (Dan) Ortiz, Jeremy (Katie) Hirn, Brandon (Ame) Hirn, Tyler (Prayer) Hirn; and numerous great-grandchildren. Preceding Norman in death were a son, Michael D. Wenger on October 15, 1977; brothers, Fred Wenger Jr. and Harry Wenger; and three sisters, Joan Clanin, Dorothy Bacon and Mary Shaw. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2013 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur with Pastor Amy Covington and Pastor Harold Klinker officiating. Interment will follow in the Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton. Friends will be received from 12 noon to 5 p.m., Sunday, December 15 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday. Preferred memorials are to Family LifeCare of Berne or the First United Methodist Church in Decatur.
