Luther N. Hoffman, 97 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2013 in Lutheran Hospital. He was born on Sunday, February 27, 1916 in Monroeville, Indiana the son of the late Lewis J. Hoffman and the late Frieda H. (Dawson) Hoffman. He married Helen M. Gault on April 30, 1938 at the Gault farm east of Berne, Indiana and she passed away on March 7, 2000. Luther was a member of the Monroeville United Methodist Church and a graduate of Hoagland High School Class of 1933. He was a lifelong farmer and retired in 1981. Luther was very genuine and sincere; a selfless and loving father, grandfather, and uncle. This quality extended toward everyone who was around himalways looking to help someone else, whether in the nursing home or in the community. This life-long commitment to how he lived his life was something that even Alzheimer's was unable to take from him. Surviving are his daughter, Barbara J. Butcher (Fred Bolinger) of Monroeville; and four sons, Mark A. (JoAnn) Hoffman; Joel D. (Brenda) Hoffman; Jeffery L. (Lucinda) Hoffman; and Arden L. (Cathy) Hoffman; all of Monroeville. He was also survived by 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Luther in death were daughter, Romona A. Dager, at age 23 on July 17, 1962; grandson, Brian Hoffman on November 30, 1990; sister Elaine Fuelling; and son-in-law, Robert H. Butcher Jr. in 1986. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in the Monroeville United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Walus officiating. Interment will follow in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. & 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, December 16 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Preferred memorials are to St. Jude's Children's Hospital; Monroeville United Methodist Church; Riley Children's Hospital; or Monroeville Fire Department.
